How on earth can I afford dental treatment?

The cost of dental procedures ranges from almost nothing to thousands of pounds; it is important to check with your dentist before you agree to go ahead with treatment.

Why are some treatments available on the NHS and some not?

The NHS provides essential services for patients; these include treatments that are necessary to maintain good oral and general health such as fillings and routine check-ups, for example.  Cosmetic procedures are not covered by the NHS because they are largely used only to enhance the aesthetic appeal of a patient’s teeth, rather than solving health issues. Cosmetic treatment is a personal choice. Dentists in Liverpool offer a comprehensive range of both NHS and private dental treatments.

What if I can’t afford dental treatment?

If you are struggling to pay for dental treatment you may be entitled to reduced rate care on the NHS; people that receive benefits from the State may be entitled to cheaper dental care and children and some people aged over 60 are entitled to free dental care. Pregnant women are also entitled to free care throughout their pregnancy and for 12 months after the child is born.

Why do dentists charge different amounts for the same treatment?

Private dentists have the right to set their own fees, within reason. Prices reflect the level of expertise of the dentist and are usually reflective of their experience and qualifications. Prices are also dependent on the location of the clinic; practices that are located in city centres are usually more expensive because they are more convenient for most patients and prices are usually higher in the South than the North; this reflects differences in salaries and living costs.
